Durango didn’t get the result it was hoping for in hostile territory.
The Demons’ boys soccer team fell 3-0 at Montrose in the first Class 4A/5A Southwestern League match of the year for Durango High School.
“Montrose played well and brought the pace toward us and made us play their style,” DHS head coach Dalon Parker said. “We got disconnected and, overall, didn’t play a very good game as a unit.”
Durango and Montrose (4-2, 2-0 SWL) split the regular-season league title a year ago, with the Demons winning a tiebreaker via head-to-head goal differential. The 3-0 result Friday would make it difficult for a similar circumstance again this season, but the Demons (4-3, 0-1 SWL) have only begun league play.
The Indians scored twice in the first half and once in the second to put the game away.
Durango has a quick turnaround for its second league game. The Demons will face Fruita Monument at 11 a.m. Saturday in Fruita.
“The guys have to have short-term memory loss. The boys were upset to lose at Montrose, because that’s always one of the game we want to take, but we have another league opponent less than 24 hours after this loss,” Parker said. “We will be ready, move on and do better.”
