It was a bit of heartbreak on tired legs for the Durango High School girls basketball team Saturday.
Playing for the third time in four days, the Demons faded in the second half of a 37-34 home loss to Grand Junction Central.
The Demons (4-5, 1-3 5A/4A Southwestern League) had led 12-4 after one quarter and 19-8 at halftime, but the Warriors (6-2, 2-2 SWL) outscored Durango 13-4 in the third quarter to get back in the game and 16-11 in the fourth to win it.
Sydney Flores led Durango with 12 points. Maddy McManus added eight, and the Warriors held Durango sophomore sensation Mason Rowland to eight points. Brenna Wolf added six in the Demons’ loss.
DHS will look to recover ahead of a big game Tuesday against Class 3A No. 7 Pagosa Springs before two more home league games next Friday and Saturday, respectively.
