Durango girls basketball shares the ball, shares win against Montezuma-Cortez

Durango girls continue roll

A well-rounded night of offense helped the Durango Demons (10-2, 2-0 Class 4A/5A Southwestern League) easily get past rival Montezuma-Cortez (7-6, 1-4 3A Intermountain League).

The Durango High School girls basketball team got past the Panthers 49-26 on Tuesday night in Cortez. Katrina Chandler scored 11 points, while Taylor Edwards led the team with 12 points.

“Our bench played really well,” DHS head coach Tim Fitzpatrick said. “Katrina got to take a break with some scoring, and she kind of ran the offense.”

Fitzpatrick was happy with the minutes received off the bench from sophomore Brett Rowland.

The Demons steadily built a lead after getting out front early. Fitzpatrick said his team’s defense and rebounding were sharp.

DHS next will travel to Fruita Monument and Montrose for games Friday and Saturday, respectively.

“They are both good teams, so it is going to be fun,” Fitzpatrick said. “They’re both talented, so we have to step up our play.”
