Denver South ended the Durango High School girls lacrosse team’s season on Thursday in the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs, 18-3.

No. 13 Durango entered the game on an eight-game winning streak after beating No. 20 Liberty 19-6 in the first round on Tuesday at DHS.

Denver South, however, was also hot and had won six of its last seven games to score the tournament’s No. 4 seed and a first-round bye. It’s one loss during that streak was to the bracket’s No. 1 seed, Castle View.

Thursday’s loss ends Durango’s season with a 10-6 overall record, including its first-ever state playoff win.

Denver South advances to the quarterfinals on Saturday against No. 5 Green Mountain. Green Mountain beat No. 12 Rampart 24-5 in the second round.
