Durango High eliminated from state swimming meet

Stottlemyer swims three events

The Colorado High School Activities Association Class 4A Boys Swimming and Diving State Championships started and ended for the Durango Demons on Friday.

Durango High School didn’t have a swimmer or team advance past the preliminaries held Friday at the Air Force Academy pool in Colorado Springs. Emmett Stottlemyer was the team’s lone individual qualifier, and he swam in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle preliminaries. Stottlemyer was 25th in the 200 in 1 minute, 55.60 seconds. He missed advancing by eight spots and six seconds. Liam Gately of Thompson Valley was the fastest in the 200 preliminaries in 1:40.79.

Stottlemyer was 38th in the 100-yard freestyle in 52.94 seconds. It was 1.5 seconds off of a time to advance into Saturday. The heat was also won by Gately, who finished in 48.85 seconds.

Stottlemyer also anchored Durango’s 200-freestyle relay team in the preliminaries. The Demons, comprised of Jason Clark, Andrew Footlik, Warner Becher and Stottlemyer, finished 23rd in 1:41.68. Valor Christian had the top time in the preliminary event in 1:28.71.
