Durango hockey teams finish with titles

12U-A and 10U-A teams win Avalanche Cup

Durango youth hockey teams traveled to Denver to compete in Colorado Amateur Hockey Association’s Avalanche Cup to wrap up their seasons.

Two Durango squads returned with first-place banners.

Durango’s 12U-A team headed into the tournament with the goal to win it, and they accomplished their goal it in a way that left a lasting impression. The team went 5-0 in the tournament, outscoring their opponents 40-1 along the way. In the championship game, Durango battled Denver University and scored the team title with a 7-0 victory.

Goalie Dante Devitre earned four shutouts in the tournament. Cooper Brown and Hunter Wildman each scored hat tricks, and Milo Martin dished out a playmaker. In the high-scoring games, every player was able to make major contributions.

The team included Chip Catsman, Conrad Clegg, Cooper Brown, Cooper Linn, Dante Devitre, Eric Strength, Hunter Wildman, Ian Fowler, Indie Eaton, Jerad Lopez, Milo Martin, Owen Erwin and Preston Loughman.

Alain Lemiuex, Dave Devitre, Todd Fowler and Ken Martin coached the team.

The Durango 10U-A team continued its winning ways and won the tournament. The team went 3-1-1 in Denver, beating Vail blue in the finals, 4-3. Emmett Sorenson, Parker Brown, Carter Lopez and John Capsay all scored in the championship game, getting assists from Capsay, Soren Vanwinkle and Greyson Bickert. Goalie Walker Green also made 59 saves. This team finished 30-7-4, winning five tournament banners during the season.

The team included Asher Clair, Brady Wright, Carter Lopez, Drake Loughman, Emmett Sorenson, Greson Bickert, John Capsay, Parker Brown, Soren Vanwinkle and Tyler Wood.

Ryan Sorenson, Chris Wood, Scott Bickert and Brian Capsay coached the team.

The Durango 12U-B also competed in the Avalanche Cup and went 1-2-1 while the 10U-B team finished 1-2.
