Durango Pickleball Open grateful to donors and sponsors

Jacob Fillion, president of the Southwest Colorado Pickleball Association, hands a $1,500 check to Jon Hoerl, principal of Durango High School, the results of the Pickleball Tournament fundraiser.

The 2019 Durango Pickleball Open took place Sept. 21 and 22. The tournament was co-hosted by Southwest Colorado Pickleball Association and Durango High School. The tournament was a great success with 90 players from the Four-Corners, Arizona, California and New Mexico.

The tournament had two objectives: to demonstrate the viability and popularity of outdoor pickleball in Durango, and as a fundraiser for the Durango High School athletics and activities programs – both objectives were achieved. The SWCPA raised $1,500 for the athletic and activities programs; and the number of players and distances traveled to play in Durango demonstrates the popularity of outdoor pickleball.

We want to thank and express our appreciation to the following major donors and sponsors from the Durango community: at the Gold Medal Level: Intelligent Investment Management, LLP and Southwest Eye Consultants; at the Silver Medal Level: The Fun Center, Caldwell Banker Heritage House Realtors and several anonymous donors; and at the Bronze Medal Level: Dalton Ranch Golf Club, Advantage Physical Therapy, Mountain Bike Specialists, Sky Blue Farms, Taco Boy, Baskin Robbins, Domino’s Pizza, Sonic, Junction Creek Family Dentistry and several anonymous donors. There were numerous other donors, too many to name here, that contributed to the tournament’s success.

Our appreciation also to Durango High School and Durango School District 9-R for their enthusiastic support of outdoor pickleball and all of our wonderful volunteers who showed up at 6:30 a.m. to set up the venue and keep everything moving – Thank you all!

Sincerely,

Southwest Colorado Pickleball Association
