Durango School District 9-R will offer “early access,” an opportunity to accelerate highly-advanced children born after Oct. 1, under the age of 5 for kindergarten and under the age of 6 for first grade.
The program intends to support students who are evaluated to be exceptional in aptitude and cognitive reasoning, academics, school readiness and motivation to identify and serve the few gifted children who require comprehensive academic acceleration.
Eligibility is determined based on a thorough set of research-based procedures.
Application packets will be available for pick up Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the Durango School District 9-R administration office, 201 E. 12th Street.
Applications and screening portfolios are due April 1 to be evaluated by the early access team.
Determination letters will be sent within 60 days of application submission, no later than June 1.
Advanced learning plans will be created by Sept. 30 and progress will be monitored every five weeks during the first year.
