“We are not issuing any more cards for water, since we are in a drought, you know.”
This is what I was told when I went to receive a card to purchase water at the fill station in Bodo.
I agree with, and applaud, the city’s efforts to conserve water during this drought. However, these conservation efforts seem misguided considering the city is purposing six new hotels, along with the numerous other housing developments.
How can the officials acknowledge that we do not have enough water for the people that live here and in the same breath encourage new growth and more water consumption?
It is apparent that this is yet another decision by the city and council officials that show where their priorities lie: It isn’t to preserve the quality of life for those who live here, it is to line their pockets through real estate development and the resulting tax increases.
It would seem wise to me to use years like this as a baseline to determine how many people this area can actually support in a healthy manner.
I would also recommend prioritizing current residents’ quality of life, as we are the ones who employ you ... unless officials plan on putting ballot boxes in the new hotels rooms they plan to develop.
