Durango’s KFC closed Wednesday

Fast-food restaurant will close at 9 p.m.; employees headed to Taco Bell
Durango’s KFC went out of business May 31.

The Kentucky Fried Chicken at 2933 Main Ave. shut down at 9 p.m. Wednesday.

According to manager Natlio Mendoza, the KFC corporate office did not want to renew that location’s lease, which resulted in the closure.

Employees, who were informed Monday, will not be out of work. Mendoza said all 12 staff members were offered and accepted jobs at Durango’s Taco Bell.

KFC and Taco Bell are operated by Yum! Brands. Representatives with Yum! Brands did not return calls seeking comment Wednesday.

According to La Plata County GIS data, the location of the KFC in Durango is owned by High Desert QSRS LLC, a Gallup, New Mexico-based organization that operates fast-food restaurants.

Representatives with High Desert were not immediately available for comment.

KFC has locations in Cortez, Farmington and Pagosa Springs.
