When Coloradans break out the orange everything as the Denver Broncos suit up to take on the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, one little Durango Cheesehead will root for his favorite team, the Green Bay Packers, as they take on the Seattle Seahawks.
His name says how deeply rooted the team is in Packer Jay Linville’s family. Parents Matt and Adrien Linville have an “interteam” marriage, with Dad, a native Coloradan, staying true to the Broncos.
But his wife’s family’s devotion to the Packers was too tough to beat. While she grew up in Chicago, as did her dad, the family has roots in northern Wisconsin, so of course, it had to be the Green Bay team.
While there was much joking about names before Packer’s arrival – team members come and go, but the Packers are here to stay – Adrien Linville told the Green Bay Press-Gazette when they heard about Packer’s name. The 4-year-old, sometimes called “Pack,” or “Pack Man” by his family, was featured in an early November edition of the paper, with much made of his – and his mom’s – devotion to the team so far away.
The Colorado side of Packer’s family thinks the name is fun, too. His grandmother, Jola Schraub, sent me the Green Bay story because it was so entertaining.
