In a recent editorial (Oct. 18), about the petitioners wanting a motorized no-wake zone on Lake Nighthorse the Herald wrote, “That’s asinine.”
As one who obtained around 100 of the signatures, I found most acquaintances and strangers that I approached to be in full support. Obtaining these signatures was easy.
Of those that signed, there were a handful initially not in favor until I explained the petition was not calling for elimination of motorized boat traffic but rather a total no-wake zone.
In hearing that, they decided to sign given that motors could still be used such as for fishing boats.
Sorry, Herald, but you are out of touch with the Durango and La Plata County community on this one.

Editor’s note: The adjective was not used to sum up the Herald’s position on the issue. It was used to paraphrase the reaction of those in favor of full motorized use to a motorized, but wakeless proposal.
