Hannah Robertson performs in concert
Hannah Robertson of Durango performed in the Cornell College Steel Drum Ensemble concert held March 27 in King Chapel.
Robertson is one of more than 20 members of the group, one of seven of the college’s highly regarded ensembles, open to all students by audition.
In addition to building group performance skills, the ensembles also offer undergraduate solo opportunities.
Cornell College is in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
Mika K. Inouye receives award
Mika K. Inouye of Durango, was awarded the Music Teachers National Association-Piano Technicians Guild Foundation Continuing Education and/or Performance Study scholarship during the 2015 MTNA National Conference in Las Vegas.
She received a $1,000 grant from the PTG Foundation, which provides piano-related advanced study opportunities to Nationally Certified Teachers of Music. Inouye, NCTM, is the co-founder and secretary of the Four Corners Music Teachers Association and the founder and president of the Four Corners Orff Chapter. She maintains a private studio in Durango, where she is active as a solo and chamber pianist and harpsichordist. As a member of the Bitterroot Trio, she performs oboe-bassoon-piano repertoire in schools and communities across Montana. Inouye is a certified teacher and trainer through the American Orff Shulwerk Association and is currently the music specialist at Durango Early Learning Center. She is the Colorado Western Slope coordinator for the MusicLink Foundation.
She also has served on committees and boards of Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association, Tucson Music Teachers Association and presently Four Corners Music Teachers Association. She received her bachelor’s degree in piano performance and pedagogy at Brigham Young University, and master’s degree in piano performance from the University of Montana, Missoula.
Cody Miller named to dean’s list
Cody Miller, Mancos resident and a student at the Pratt Institute, was named to the dean’s list in the Fall 2014 semester.
The institute is in New York.
