Keely Costello named to president’s list
Keely Costello, a resident of Ignacio, has earned placement on the Gonzaga University President’s List for Fall semester 2014. Students must earn a 3.7 to 4.0 grade-point average to be listed.
Gonzaga University is a humanistic, private Catholic University providing a Jesuit education to more than 7,500 students.
Situated along the Spokane River near downtown Spokane, Washington, Gonzaga is routinely recognized among the West’s best comprehensive regional universities. Gonzaga offers 75 fields of study, 25 master’s degrees, a doctorate in leadership studies and a Juris Doctor degree through its School of Law.
Home Builders name scholarship winner
The Home Builders Association of Southwest Colorado has awarded a $250 scholarship to Matthew Rushing to complete his certificates in pipe welding and structural welding.
According to Patrick Flores, coordinator of High School/College Relations with Southwest Colorado Community College, Rushing is a senior concurrently enrolled at Montezuma-Cortez High School and Southwest Colorado Community College’s welding program.
He is completing his second year in the welding program that will earn him certificates in pipe welding and structural welding.
He has been involved with the high school’s Future Farmers of America organization. His parents are Al and Jean Rushing.
DHS athletes receive recognition
The Durango High School Girls Swimming/Diving and Girls Basketball teams were nominated for the Colorado High School Activities Association/Les Schwab Academic Team Championship Award.
In order to qualify as a nominee, the team cumulative GPA must be 3.50 or above.
The athletes are:
Girls Basketball (3.57 GPA): Stephanie Basye, Katrina Chandler, Danica Dudley, Taylor Edwards, Emily Fogel, Shilo Gillen, Riley Hall, Shaelee Hawkins, Tessa Leeder, Paige Mazur, Payton Randle and Kaitlin Wiegert.
Girls Swimming/Diving (3.68 GPA): Tania Barnes, Lillian Bisantz, Sarah Clark, Candace Dellinger, Catherine Dellinger, Elizabeth Earl, Joci Earl, Elizabeth Gervais, Anastasia Hermesman, Lacey Hoselton, Bryn Joyner, Mira Joyner, Claire Larson, Sarah Lawton, Fiona McAliney, Sadie McAliney, Anne Mummery, Caroline Tidwell, Elise Tidwell, Hailey Warren and Violet Witchel.
These athletes were named Academic All-State – First Team Criteria (3.60 GPA and above):
Boys Basketball: Orion Clay, Logan Geauthreaux, Joseph Logan and Scott Morse.
Girls Basketball: Danica Dudley, Emily Fogel, Tessa Leeder, Paige Mazur and Kaitlin Wiegert.
Girls Swimming/Diving: Catherine Dellinger, Elizabeth Earl, Elizabeth Gervais, Bryn Joyner, Sarah Lawton, Anne Mummery, Caroline Tidwell and Elise Tidwell.
Wrestling: Matthew Lavengood.

Megan Ganley named to dean’s list
Megan D. Ganley, a resident of Durango, has recently been named to the dean’s list at Boston University for the Fall semester.
Each school and college at Boston University has its own criterion for the dean’s list, but students generally must attain a 3.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), or be in the top 30 percent of their class, as well as a full course load as a full time student.
Hannah Robertson to attend service trip
Hannah Robertson of Durango is one of more than 100 students participating in Cornell College’s Alternative Spring Break.
Students involved with Alternative Spring Break spend their weeklong break on a service trip. Robertson is taking part in the trip to Biloxi, Mississippi, and will work with Community Collaborations International on disaster relief.

Locals named to honor roll
These local University of Dallas student-athletes were named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference’s honor roll:
Danielle Pajak, a University of Dallas senior from Pagosa Springs, competed in women’s cross country
Crystal Purcell, a University of Dallas senior from Pagosa Springs, competed in women’s cross country
Student-athletes needed to achieve a GPA of 3.25 or higher and be regular players for their respective teams to qualify.

Colter McMenimen of Bayfield has been admitted to Cornell College and offered the dean’s scholarship.
