El Moro Spirits and Tavern sets date to reopen

After more than three months of reconstruction to repair damage caused by an Oct. 5 structural fire, El Moro Spirits and Tavern is set for a soft reopening Thursday.

“It’s going to take us a few days to get all our systems operating back at peak efficiency, so we’re looking at this as a ‘soft’ reopening,” said Kris Oyler, chief executive of the parent company of El Moro and Steamworks Brewing Co., in a news release. “We haven’t been able to take full occupancy of the building until all inspections were complete, so we ask our patrons to be patient with us, but we certainly want everyone to come by. El Moro is back!”

El Moro sustained fire, smoke and water damage when a fire started in a water heater in the rear of the restaurant at 945 Main Ave.

While some of the menu will stay the same, new items set to debut include a Vietnamese Pork Sausage made with Duroc Pork, Green Papaya Salad and Nuoc Cham Sauce and a “Thyme & Beets” season cocktail featuring Chilean pisco, lemon juice, beet and thyme syrup and egg white, garnished with a thyme sprig and dried beet.

During the reconstruction, El Moro employees received a salary from the company and were encouraged to volunteer their time to non-profit organizations. With the re-opening, 36 will return to their jobs.

El Moro will host the annual Trails 2000 fundraiser Wednesday night before opening to the public on Thursday.

El Moro opened in July 2013. For further information, visit www.elmorotavern.com, facebook.com/ElMoroTavern on Facebook or @elmorotavern on Twitter.
