It is true for my circumstance: Electric heating has proven to be less expensive than Atmos Energy natural gas. For the past two months, heating with electric has cost me about one-quarter of the price of using natural gas from Atmos.

To reiterate, the price of the actual gas has not risen much. The increase is because of multiple extra charges added by Atmos. Unfortunately, there is no alternative to this one supplier for comparison sake. Additionally, after my last letter in September, that same day an Atmos employee came to my house and took pictures of my meter, which has never been done in the past.

Perhaps, I will no longer have a choice. My contact with the Public Utilities Commission concerning this matter has been unanswered. But thanks to The Durango Herald, I have been able to voice my observations and concerns to the local populace.
