But wait, think about it, we all want to play our best to the abilities we possess. Correct? Well, enter the Elevated Golf Academy at the Dalton Ranch Golf Club. This is a new golf instruction and club-fitting experience spearheaded by local golf expert Shea Sena. We all know Sena’s accomplishments in and around the game of golf locally and regionally. Sena, who is the director of instruction for the academy, will incorporate the use of state-of-the-art equipment such as video and launch monitors to help the student see some of the mistakes they make and provide objective feedback over the course of the lessons.
I even heard from one golfer how her game has improved over the course of two lessons. Since we are now in the 21st century and technology has moved way past human comprehension, is it not time to catch up to our potential? The Express Employment Professionals Horse Race Shootout is being played Saturday at Hillcrest. I will have complete results for you in my May 20 column.
The Durango Amateur Championship, now in its second season under the new name, will be played May 28-29 at Hillcrest. This event, sponsored by Morehart-Murphy Auto Center, is also a Colorado Golf Association points event. There is a total of $750 in added prize purse, including a $250 kick-in by Shirley Crom, CPA. This is a 36-hole individual stroke play format with 100 percent handicaps with flights. Proceeds from the event go to Youth Baseball of La Plata County. Sign up info is at the information table in the Hillcrest clubhouse.
Looking ahead on the tournament calendar, we find the Member Meltdown on May 20 at Dalton Ranch. The field is limited to the first 80 players, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
Also, the annual Bank of the San Juans Charity tournament will be held June 2 at Dalton Ranch. Contact either the pro shop or Bank of the San Juans for sign-up information.
Entries are now being accepted through May 8 for the annual Columbine Classic Duet Golf Tournament being contested on both the Glacier Club and Dalton Ranch courses June 14-15. This year’s beneficiary is the Cancer Coalition of Southwest Colorado, as well as the continuing support for the Fort Lewis College women’s golf team. The entry fee is $200 per player – $800 per team – with checks made out to Dalton Ranch Golf Club. Since the deadline is two days away, it would be best to hand-deliver your entry fee to the Dalton Ranch pro shop.
The Dalton Ranch Women’s Golf Association official opening meeting will be May 17. Check with association secretary Diane Smith for more details.
