Did I read Upper Pine Fire Protection District Chief Bruce Evans’ quote correctly: “Somebody panicked and notified the school to evacuate ... it just got completely out of hand” (Herald, March 7)? I would hope when someone sees flames 100 feet from 20 or more propane tanks, he or she takes action. On top of that, there are several hundred kids right next door.
As a grandparent, I would much rather they be evacuated and lose an hour of school than be planning their funerals. We have lost too many kids already to assume there was “never any threat.”
Kudos to the person who cared enough to protect our loved ones.
