Farmers Market: Thimbleberry Smoothie Co. seeks to nourish the community

Smoothies and smoothie bowls are gluten-, dairy-free

For market-goers seeking a place to get a fruity breakfast, one option is Thimbleberry Smoothie Co.’s purple trailer.

The company, co-run by Ryell Carley and Kim DeVenero, sells organic, made-to-order smoothies and smoothie bowls, Carley said. Smoothie bowls are thick smoothies with granola and fruit on top, and are eaten with a spoon.

“It’s kind of a fun breakfast experience,” Carley said.

The two women started the business in June to fill a niche they saw in Durango.

“The reason that we started this business is because we realized there was a need for healthy breakfast foods at the (Durango Farmers Market) specifically,” she said, “but also we both really love and believe in smoothies and we wanted to share that with our community because there’s not really a lot of smoothie options around town.”

Thimbleberry’s goal is to nourish the community by putting together the best-quality food it can serve, DeVenero said.

The granola is gluten-free, and the women make their own pumpkin-seed and hemp-seed milk to keep everything plant-based and dairy-free, Carley said.

“We use organic ingredients and it’s really high quality,” she said.
