Fiedler did so much for Durango, Snowdown

A big thank you to Linda Mannix for her touching reminder of Terry Fiedler and the early days of Snowdown (Herald, Jan. 26). My husband, Blake, and I moved to Durango 26 years ago. It was a bit smaller then, and we seemed to know a larger proportion of the population and felt very welcomed. We were thrilled by the idea of a winter carnival, enjoyed the parade, watched the events and usually found tickets to the Follies, which seemed to be the main event. The acts were creative and funny (Anyone who saw the “cattle call” can never forget it!). One year, Blake even performed a magic act. My favorite was the “news” show, most of the jokes were understood mainly by locals, which made the audience feel they were in on the jokes.

Thanks a lot to Terry. He did so much for Durango, and I’m glad he will have the rest of his life in a place where he is loved.
