FLC loses pace at road nationals

Marian extends its lead in the omnium with strong criterium finishes

Saturday’s criteriums were not kind to the Fort Lewis College cycling team’s title hopes at the USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships.

The Skyhawks fell to fourth from second in the team omnium standings after the criterium races with 237 points.

FLC picked up 23 pints in the women’s criterium and 64 points in the men’s race.

Marian retained its lead with 365 points, while California-Davis (256) and Lindenwood (243) jumped FLC into second and third, respectively.

Colorado-Boulder (125) moved up to eighth place, and Colorado State (95) dropped down to 11th.

Colorado Mesa leads the Division II team omnium race with 365 points.

Marian’s Coryn Rivera won the Division I women’s criterium in 50 minutes flat.

Ivie Crawford turned in the Skyhawks’ best finish in the women’s 50-minute, plus three-lap criterium in 22nd place in 50 minutes, 8 seconds.

Jenna MacPherson was 30th, Sydney Edmonson 54th and Maddie Chaves 58th for FLC.

Colorado Mesa’s Ariane Horbach won the Division II women’s criterium in 50:54.

Lindenwood’s Brandon Feehery won the men’s 70-minute, plus three-lap event in 1:17:34, with two Marian racers right behind him in second and third.

Renan Maia was the Skyhawks’ top finisher in 10th at 1:17:36.

Griffin Easter took 14th in 1:17:37, Zack Noonan was 22nd in 1:17:38, and Dean Haas finished 69th in 1:23:19 for FLC.

Charlie Hough of Furman won the men’s Division II criterium in 1:12:32.

The championships will close with Sunday’s road races, which will begin at 5 a.m. with the women’s Division II road race.

The Division I women’s five-lap, 78-kilometer road race will start at 7:50 a.m., and the Division I men’s seven-lap, 109.2-kilometer road race will begin at 2:20 p.m.
