FLC softball still looking for first win

Skyhawks to play home opener this weekend against Adams State

The Fort Lewis College softball team was swept by Colorado Christian University over the weekend to begin it Rocky Mountain Athletics Conference season.

The four losses to the Cougars dropped FLC’s record to 0-13 overall. CCU improved to 14-4 with the wins.

Game 2, the closest of the series, went extra innings before Kenzie Middleton hit a walk-off two-run home run for CCU.

CCU also scored the first run, but Katie Pippel brought Jaden Redus home with a sacrifice fly in te third inning to tie the game at 1-1.

FLC then took the lead with four runs in the fourth. Sydney Stewart singled to start the inning, Cat Rodman doubled, and Jadyn Gilley was hit by a pitch to load the bases. H. Rutherford drew a walk to bring one run home, and Sloan Shotton got beaned to score another run. Redus hit a sacrifice fly to put FLC up, 4-1.

CCU tied the game with two singles and two doubles in the bottom of the fourth, but it was five more innings until the tie was broken.

Hailie Mann took the loss, giving up two runs in 5.2 innings.

CCU won the other games 15-0, 12-4 and 8-0.

Cat Rodman is Fort Lewis’ leading hitter, with a .345 batting average, including four doubles, one home run, five RBIs and five scores. Alex Tenorio is hitting .297 with three doubles, a homer and six runs.

The Skyhawks will play their first home games this weekend, taking on Adams State University for a four-game set. The Skyhawks and Grizzlies will play at 1 and 3 p.m. Friday and at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday.

UPDATE: FLC and Adams were originally scheduled to play on Saturday and Sunday, but the series was moved up a day due to weather and is now being contested on Friday and Saturday.
