It’s interesting and amusing for me to read all the letters in our Durango Herald. Our most erudite residents work diligently using 13-letter words to show everyone how intelligent they are.
If they are so smart, why not prove it by helping out in our community? Get a job, start a business, shop local, help a neighbor or volunteer. You can do it! Opportunity is knocking at your doorstep.
God knows we could use the help. After shoveling snow for weeks (at my advanced age) and trying to find help/hire someone to clear snow off my home’s roof for “I cannot even count the days,” I just poured myself a cuppa coffee and finally opened the weekend Herald’s Funday Sunnies. (I save that section for last. It’s what I used to think was mindless entertainment.) There, right on the pages of the comic strips from the weekend of Feb. 23-24, were some of the best examples of life lessons and advice I’ve seen in quite a while – and they didn’t even have to use 13-letter words to hit a home run.
If you don’t get the Herald but can afford it, sign up and you can help to keep our neighborhood’s “not-so-daily anymore” newspaper afloat. It prints important local news, gives budding journalists a chance to hone their craft and provides residents a forum to express their views. And, no, they have not given me remuneration for this letter. (Sorry, but I could only come up with 12 letters.)
