The San Juan National Forest’s Columbine Ranger District is accepting public comments in response to a draft environmental assessment of the Vallecito-Piedra Integrated Vegetation Management Project.
A public meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 4 at Bayfield Town Hall, 1199 Bayfield Parkway. Participants will be able to ask questions and talk to Forest Service employees about the project.
The project area occupies 80,334 acres in areas surrounding Vallecito Reservoir, Beaver Meadows and First Notch, in La Plata and Archuleta counties. The proposed action will use mechanical vegetation thinning and harvest treatments, prescribed fire and managed natural fire.

The deadline for written comments is Oct. 20.
