It was a good week for Fort Lewis College soccer.
Both teams picked up their first win of the young season Sunday and the goalkeepers, Peter Byrne for the men and Ali Miller for the women, were named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s Goalkeepers of the Week on Tuesday.
Byrne recorded 10 saves in two games last week. Six came in a 1-1 draw against the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, and he notched four saves in a 4-0 win against Colorado State University-Pueblo, Byrne’s second shutout of the season.
Byrne has played every minute of every match so far this season. He has made 36 saves while allowing six goals in six matches.
Miller was brilliant between the posts for the women’s team during the weekend. She made six saves in a 1-0 loss to CSU-Pueblo on Friday, then shut out New Mexico Highlands University with a seven-save effort in a 1-0 win Sunday.
Miller has played in all five of the team’s matches and has started four times. She has made 31 saves this season against a 1.02 goals against average.
The FLC men’s and women’s teams will be back in action this weekend at Dirks Field. The women will host Regis on Friday and Metro State University-Denver on Sunday, while the men will welcome Westminster on Friday and No. 10 Colorado Mesa on Sunday.
