The Fort Lewis College women’s track and field team is building on its performances from its inaugural season early in the 2016 season.
Six new program records were set Saturday at the University of New Mexico Don Kirby Tailwind Invitational in Albuquerque. The women finished sixth overall out of nine teams in its category with 17 points.
Skylyn Webb of Delta built off a strong indoor season with two new outdoor records Saturday. She ran the 200-meter dash in 25.78 seconds to beat Stephanie Dexter’s mark of 27.81. She followed that up with a 55.60 seconds finish in the 400 meter to demolish Dexter’s previous mark of 1:02.38.
FLC also fielded a 4x100-meter relay team for the first time, and the team finished in 49.34 seconds. The team was made up of Quineo Borneo, Sydni Brandon, Bridgett Gantt and Jazmyne Reining.
Reining’s 100-meter dash time also set a new school record. She crossed in 12.85 seconds to beat Dexter’s previous mark of 13.52.
Distance runners also had a strong day. Becca Bramley’s 11:06.55 finish in the 3,000-meter run was a new record.
Freshman thrower Shanell Leekya also got in on the action. Her shot put throw of 10.56 meters rboke the previous mark set by Caitlyn Espinosa.
The outdoor season is just getting underway, as FLC will travel to Grand Junction in two weeks for the CMU Maroon Classic.
