Fort Lewis volleyball swept by New Mexico Highlands in home finale

FLC volleyball swept by Cowboys

It’s been a tough season for Fort Lewis’ volleyball team and Saturday night’s home finale was no different.

The Skyhawks were swept 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-19) by New Mexico Highlands (7-20, 3-14 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference).

Matisse Monty and Delaney Scanlan led Fort Lewis with nine kills each. Scanlan also led in assists with 20 and Gabriella Hickman had 14 digs in the loss.

The Skyhawks got out to an early 10-8 lead in the first set. The Cowboys won six of the next seven and 14 of the next 19 points to open up a 22-15 lead. FLC rallied to win seven of the next eight points and close the gap to 24-23 but couldn’t finish the comeback.

The visitors rode the momentum from the first set and jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second. Fort Lewis never caught up and the Cowboys took a 2-0 match lead with a 25-18 set two win.

New Mexico Highlands led from start to finish in the third set and closed the match with a 25-19 victory.

Fort Lewis will close out its season Nov. 14 at Adams State.
