Four seats open in LPEA board election

Aspiring candidates for a seat on La Plata Electric Association’s board of directors may pick up packets March 17 and must return them to LPEA by 1 p.m. April 1.

Four seats are open – District 1, Archuleta County held by Bob Formwalt; District 2, south and west La Plata County, held by Jerry McCaw; District 3, city of Durango, held by Britt Bassett; and District 4, north and east La Plata County, held by Heather Erb.

Candidates must reside in the district they represent, and they may not work for a competing enterprise or supplier of LPEA. They must submit the signatures of at least 15 people who live in their district. A complete list of qualifications can be found at www.lpea.coop.

Packets must be returned by 1 p.m. on April 1 to LPEA at 45 Stewart St. in Durango or 603 S. Eighth St. in Pagosa Springs.

Ballots will be mailed to LPEA members by April 24. Completed ballots may be dropped at or mailed to the office of the La Plata County Clerk and Recorder (98 Everett St., Suite C) or either of the LPEA offices. Mailed ballots should be returned by May 13 to arrive in time to be counted.

If only one person runs in a district, either incumbent or challenger, the district will cancel the election to save $10,000 per district.

Results will be announced at the LPEA annual meeting May 16 at Pagosa Springs High School.

Candidates with questions should contact Jeannie Bennett at 382-3505.
