From humble origins, Randango Classic turns 32

The 32nd Randango Golf Classic, to benefit the Bryan Merry Memorial Scholarship Fund, will be held Saturday at Hillcrest Golf Club.

This event had humble beginnings in the parking lot of the old A&L Coors facility in Bodo Park when a group of after hours employees decided to hit golf balls around the lot and wherever else the ball landed. I never could figure out why we did not have a TPC Bodo course come out of this brainchild. One good shot and a skip across the Carbon Junction Bridge would land your next shot into the old Radio Ranch antenna array!

Alas, the money was not there to build such a course at the time, but thank goodness the money now is there to help support our young boys and girls as they advance their athletic careers in college. Seriously, this is a fun event with bragging rights until the 2014 tournament begins.

A couple of additional tournament reminders as the Ladies Team Play will take place today at Dalton Ranch Golf Club with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. That will be followed by the Dave Person Memorial Hillcrest Junior Club Championship on Monday and Tuesday. Check with the respective pro shops for information on how to register.

How do you make $2 million in just two weeks? You change your nickname to Lefty … congrats Phil!
