Green grass a good sign for deer and golf alike

I do not know who is enjoying the greener grass this summer, the deer or the golfers. Both have a stake, as the deer are filling up for the winter ahead, while golfers are getting in the last hopes of correcting a problem in the game before having to head – if you are so blessed – south for continuing play.

But wait, we forgot one more group: the groundskeepers who are thankful for the recent rains to foster some good root growth to sustain courses for next year. Oh heck, they are all winners. So you have no excuses not to get out and play as the rush of the main summer activity has passed us by.

Both Dalton Ranch and Hillcrest have three more tournaments on their calendars for the 2016 season, so let’s take a closer look.

Hillcrest Golf Club

The Fiesta Mexicana Fall Classic 2-Person Best Ball will be played Sept. 10-11. There is $500 in added prize purse and an entry fee of $50 per person. You can choose your own partner with the provision there is no greater than an eight-stroke differential in handicap. Tee times begin at 9 a.m. both days, and 90-percent handicaps will be used to determine both gross and net prize winners. Check with the pro shop to see if spots are still available to enter.

The Dave Peterson Memorial Tournament will be contested Sept. 24 at Hillcrest, followed by the season-ending Todd Sieger Shootout on Oct. 1st. This event brings together the top-10 season money winners from the designated previous 2016 tournament events involving Hillcrest Golf Club members.

Dalton Ranch Golf Club

Dalton Ranch’s next event is the ever-popular Four Corners Stroke Play on Sept. 24-25. There was a July 25th deadline for entires. The best-of-the-best golfers from all over the Four Corners will compete for bragging rights for the next season.

Looking further down the line at Dalton Ranch we find the Men’s Senior Championship on Oct. 8-9, and the season-ending Mailman Tournament on Oct. 29th.
