‘Griswold deserves reelection’

Colorado’s outstanding Secretary of State Jena Griswold deserves our votes for reelection. Griswold’s accomplishments during unprecedented attacks on the integrity of our voting systems nationwide by reckless politicians have made the job of protecting our democracy ever more difficult.

Why The Durango Herald and The Journal recommend unseating an “excellent” incumbent with four years experience for an unknown entity is beyond comprehension.

It seems the Herald dislikes the timing of some of Griswold’s efforts to combat election misinformation. In September 2020, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Homeland Security Department recognized that false information was being widely spread “in an attempt to discredit the electoral process and undermine confidence in U.S. democratic institutions.”

See “Facing a deluge of misinformation, Colorado takes the offensive against it” in The New York Times from October 2020. Like California and Ohio, Colorado’s effort is extremely important and has been ongoing since 2019. The Times noted security experts’ belief that initiatives such as Griswold’s are necessary to shore up faith in our elections.

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose instructed his office to make misinformation the top priority, reaching out to community leaders – particularly in minority communities – to get out the facts when misinformation begins to take hold.

Griswold has made similar connections, saying, “It’s very important that as a nation, we really stand up to push back against one of the biggest threats to our democracy and our election system.”

Please vote for Jena Griswold!
