‘Growing Dome’ tour set for Bayfield

SHAUN STANLEY/Durango Herald -BAYFIELD, CO- 09/18/2013 - Jim Poe, a volunteer, inspects the joints of a newly constructed 22 square foot growing dome within the Pine River Community Garden at the Pine River Public Library Wednesday. Donated by Growing Spaces in Pagosa Springs the dome will be used to promote self sufficiency, sustainability and support local food production by making examples of four season growing cycles. Pine River Library Development Director Judy Poe describes the dome and community garden area as "living library for learning and to build community". It was estimated he growing dome project took 65 volunteer hours to complete.

Bayfield residents and Growing Spaces will hold a “Growing Dome” tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11, in Bayfield.

A select group of Bayfield dome owners will open their garden gates for the tour.

Attendees will meet at Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive, to visit the Growing Dome on site and receive directions to the Bayfield domes participating in the tour.

After the tour at 3 p.m., Pine River Library will offer refreshments, snacks and a screening of an environmental short film. The event is free and open to all.
