Guido’s restaurant to close temporarily

Mother and daughter plan to take time to heal after loss
Susan Devereaux and Amber Jacin, the mother-daughter team who own and operate Guido’s, plan to close the restaurant for a little more than a month beginning Saturday. They plan to be closed through the end of January.

Susan Devereaux and Amber Jacin, the mother-daughter team who own and operate Guido’s Pizza Pasta Panini, plan to close the restaurant for a little more than a month beginning Saturday.

Devereaux said the restaurant will close to allow her and Jacin necessary time to grieve and heal after the March 2016 suicide of son and brother Cully Wilkin, who served as chef at the restaurant.

“It’s been incredibly difficult to come to work. We’re closing for our own healing. We haven’t had the chance to heal since he left us,” Devereaux said.

The restaurant will be closed through the end of January, at which time Devereaux and Jacin plan to reassess and determine if the closure might be extended.

Devereaux said the three worked together for years. “Coming here every day has not helped us heal,” she said.

Devereaux will post a sign on the door of Guido’s explaining the closure.

“We lost a brother, son, friend and chef in March 2016. With the loss of Cully, we not only lost a piece of our hearts but a piece of Guido’s went with him,” the sign reads.

“It has been extremely difficult to come in day to day and feel the loss so deeply. We have done it, putting our grieving aside for our wonderful employees and our supportive customers.

“And so it has come to a point that we must take some time to heal.”
