Habitat raises its 38th roof in county

Congratulations to Rachel Taylor-Saghie, Kevin Bates and the board of Habitat for Humanity for funding and recently completing the 38th home in La Plata County (Herald, Oct. 7). This put a roof over the heads of another deserving, hard-working family, which now will become taxpaying stakeholders in the American Dream by having a place they can call their own.

With the sweat equity this single mom and her two kids put in, along with the help and support of Habitat’s great team, Habitat for Humanity once again leads the way in providing affordable housing in our county – the only agency that seems able to put sticks in the air, rather than just lip service in city and county meeting rooms.

No wonder groups such as the local Homebuilders of Southwest Colorado support Habitat’s effort every year by donating thousands of dollars through its annual yard sale at Three Springs – Habitat actually builds homes. Way to go.

And, by the way, the new look and inventory put together by Kevin and his team at the Habitat Re-Store out in Bodo is really impressive. Good job.
