The Hardrock Hundred is on.
After the 416 and Burro fires have wreaked havoc on the San Juan National Forest, Hardrock Hundred Mile Endurance Run race director Dale Garland announced this year’s edition of the race will go on as planned.
“I want to thank the entire Hardrock community for your patience, understanding and support as we worked through the impacts of the 416 and Burro fires as they related to this year’s Hardrock,” Garand said in a news release.
“We’re excited that we will be able to have everybody join us for this year’s Hardrock as we celebrate our silver running!”
According to the release, Garland met with community members, the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service and members of the Hardrock run committee before making the decision to continue as planned.
There are 146 runners registered for this year’s race, with another 115 sitting on the wait list.
This year’s Hardrock will be held July 20-22 on the race’s clockwise course. Starting and finishing in Silverton, the course covers 100.5 miles with a total elevation change of 66,100 feet.
Runners average about 11,000 feet in elevation, with the low point coming in Ouray at about 7,800 feet and reach a high point of 14,048 feet on Handies Peak.
