’Hawks ‘played ourselves out of the game’

The first losing streak of the 2014 women’s lacrosse season reached four consecutive games with an 11-3 defeat against Regis on Saturday at Ray Dennison Memorial Field.

The Rangers led 5-3 at halftime before scoring six unanswered goals in the second half to put the game out of reach.

The Skyhawks only attempted five shots after halftime.

“It was a game where we didn’t play to our full potential,” FLC head coach Kelsey MacDonald said in a news release. “We played ourselves out of the game.”

Erin Todd led Regis (7-3, 4-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) with four goals in the game and also chipped in an assist.

Ellie Carpenter, Jessica Norby and Brook Wineland scored for FLC (5-5, 2-2 RMAC).

The Rangers outshot the Skyhawks 28-11 and won the groundball battle 28-17.

FLC comitted 22 turnovers.

Alyssa Spencer made six saves for the Skyhawks.

“Our defense and goalie Alyssa Spencer played really well for us (Saturday),” MacDonald said.

FLC will host Colorado Mesa at 1 p.m. Sunday at Ray Dennison Memorial Field.

The Skyhawks defeated the Mavericks 14-7 on Feb. 22 to open their season.
