State launches website about pot, health

The state of Colorado launched a new website to answer common questions about the legalization of retail marijuana and the health effects of marijuana use.

It is www.colorado.gov/marijuana. The website features current, research-based information and resources from the Colorado departments of Transportation, Education, Revenue, Human Services, and Public Health and Environment.

Topics on the website include underage use, long-term health impacts, secondhand marijuana smoke exposure, legal and safe use of marijuana, driving while impaired, overuse of marijuana and more.

Through the course of the year, the department will launch education campaigns that will have a television, radio and social-media presence.

Meeting to address oral health April 4

The Citizens Health Advisory Council will present the Oral Health Mini-Summit from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. April 4 at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

The council is collaborating with the San Juan Basin Health Department to highlight the state of oral health in Colorado, an issue selected by council members.

A light breakfast will be served. An agenda for the event is available at www.chaclaplata.org. There is no cost to attend.

Class to help people with prediabetes

People identified as having prediabetes are invited to attend a free class by Sheena Carswell and Marge Morris from 9 to 11 a.m. April 3 in Suite 140 of the medical office building at Mercy Regional Medical Center.

Attendees will learn how to manage prediabetes and help prevent the onset of Type 2 diabetes.
