Health Briefs

March is National Nutrition Month

Proper nutrition is paramount for achieving optimal health, and March is National Nutrition Month.

The theme this year is “Bite into a Healthy Lifestyle,” emphasizing the importance of consuming fewer calories, making informed food choices and getting daily exercise to achieve and maintain a heathy weight, reduce the risk of chronic disease and promote overall health.

The key to eating fewer calories while maintaining good nutrition is eating meals and snacks that are nutrient-dense, providing vitamins, minerals, protein, carbohydrates and other essential nutrients that offer health benefits with relatively fewer calories.

San Juan Basin Health’s Women Infant and Children Program helps families develop healthier lifestyles. WIC provides nutrition education to pregnant moms, postpartum moms and children 5 and younger.

For more information about WIC, call 335-2018.
