Doula training to be offered in Durango
The Birthing Tree in Santa Fe, New Mexico, announces educational training in Durango from Aug. 8 to Aug. 10.
Doulas are trained, certified labor assistants who provide a pregnant woman and her family nonmedical support during pregnancy, labor/birth and postpartum.
Doulas work in hospitals, homes and birth centers, and they provide physical, emotional and practical information and support for pregnant women.
A doula is different than a midwife because her role is nonmedical and focusses solely on the emotional and physical comfort of a mother and her support people.
To become a certified doula, a woman must complete a 16-hour training in birth work and fulfill other requirements set by Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association.
To register for the workshops, visit www.thebirthingtree.com.
