Acupuncture clinic available, sponsored for veterans

A Durango Veterans Acupuncture Clinic will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Mondays and from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays at 635 East Fifth Ave.

This is a free, community-style acupuncture clinic for veterans and their families. The clinic is sponsored by The Durango Acupuncture Alliance.

Fort Lewis to host webinar about youth drug abuse

The Southwestern Colorado Area Health Education Center will host a town hall webinar to discuss prescription drug abuse among youths Nov. 20 in Room 140 of Noble Hall at Fort Lewis College.

Refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m., and the program will begin at 7 p.m. The live-stream event will take place in Denver and broadcast to audiences across the state.

Topics to be discussed include: warning signs and symptoms, local solutions, new overdose prevention legislation and personal stories from affected families.

The webinar is organized and presented by the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America in collaboration with the Office of the Governor, the Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Program, University of Colorado-Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Colorado Area Health Education Centers.

Pediatric Associates to offer free classes

Pediatric Associates of Durango, 1199 Main Ave., Suite 205, will offer these classes:

Free children’s yoga class for parents and children ages 3 to 7 years old will take place from 4:40 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Dec. 12. The class will be instructed by Katie Walsh.

Free infant massage class for parents and babies ages 2 to 6 months will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 19 and Dec. 17. The class will be instructed by Nicole Johnson.

This website provides information for people and families, small businesses, and Native Americans, including eligibility requirements and a link to shop for health insurance through the federal government’s exchange at healthcare.gov.

Mercy Regional earns an ‘A’ for hospital safety in fall ’13

Mercy Regional Medical Center was honored with an “A” grade in the fall of 2013 update to the Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections.

The Hospital Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of experts on patient safety and is administered by The Leapfrog Group, an independent industry watchdog. The score is designed to give members of the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families.
