United Blood Services to hold many drives

United Blood Services will host these blood drives:

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 910 East Third Ave.

2 to 6 p.m. July 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 28, 30 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 11 and 25 at United Blood Services, 1970 East Third Ave., Suite 107.

1:30 to 5:30 p.m. July 2 at First United Methodist Church, 515 N. Park, Cortez.

2 to 5 p.m. July 3 at the KOA Campground, 30090 U.S. Highway 160.

Noon to 3 p.m. July 8 at Coldwell Banker, 785 Main Ave.

Adult Role Model winners announced

San Juan Basin Health Department, Celebrating Healthy Communities coalition and the Boys and Girls Club of La Plata County announces the winners of the 2015 La Plata County Adult Role Model Award.

Young people were asked to nominate adults in their lives who model positive, responsible behavior. Nominations were broken into five categories: there is one winner from each town (Durango, Ignacio and Bayfield), as well as a Native American winner and a Hispanic winner.

Selection committees compiled of adults and young people were formed for each nomination category to determine winners.

The winners are:

David Boyd (Native American), nominated by Sara Chakee.

Joey Hodlmair (Bayfield), nominated by Aspyn Jenkins.

Maria Gonzales (Hispanic), nominated by Katie Williams.

Dublin Wilmer (Ignacio), nominated by Hunter Cayle Robbins.

Jacob Hetrick (Durango), nominated by Ethan Giersch.

All young people who participated also won a $12 gift certificate to Maria’s Bookshop.

Centura Health enters joint venture

Centura Health announced it has formed a joint venture with the Houston-based Larkin Group, a leader in the development of freestanding emergency centers across Texas.

The two organizations will combine their expertise to accelerate delivery of emergency care across the Centura Health network.

Through its neighborhood health strategy, Centura Health is identifying where gaps in health and wellness services and resources exist, and providing solutions that meet consumers’ needs, to deliver optimal health care.

Centura Health will continue to operate its Colorado urgent care center in Durango.
