Mini Med School offered locally

The University of Colorado School of Medicine will offer a free program called “Mini Med School” for people who would like to learn more about medicine, health and the human body.

Mini Med School II is an eight-week free course that meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays for a one-hour lecture followed by a question-and-answer session with distinguished faculty members of the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

The classes are held on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, and there will be a live video feed in Durango at the Southwest Colorado Community College, in Room 105, Gateway Room, 701 Camino del Rio.

This year’s course schedule will include The Art of Medicine on Sept. 2; A Day in the Life of an Ob/Gyn on Sept. 9; Understanding Your Sleep on Sept. 16; Fall Break on Sept. 23; Revealing Genetics: What in Your Genome? And Do You Want to Know? on Sept. 30; Caring for Seriously Ill and Dying Patients on Oct. 7; A Day in the Life of a Pediatrician on Oct. 14; Hypertension: Understanding the Silent Killer on Oct. 21; and How Thyroid Disorders Affect Your Health and Well-Being on Oct. 28.

2 to 6 p.m. Sept. 1, 8, 29 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 12, 17, 26 at the United Blood Services’ Durango office, 1970 East Third Ave., Suite 107.

2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 3 at the First Methodist Church, 515 N. Park, Cortez.

9 a.m. to noon Sept. 8 at the Colorado Department of Transportation, 3803 Main Ave.

2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Cross Road Community Church, 1044 Park Ave., Pagosa Springs.
