Heart Safe La Plata offers CPR classes

Heart Safe La Plata, a local nonprofit organization, will offer these CPR classes at Durango Fire & Rescue Station 1, 142 Sheppard Drive:

An Adult CPR/AED class will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 1.

A CPR Pro class will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 8.

Prediabetes class scheduled for Oct. 2

Mercy Regional Medical Center will offer free education to people with prediabetes from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 2 in Suite 140 of the medical office building at Mercy.

People diagnosed with prediabetes are at a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Effectively managing prediabetes can help prevent diabetes.

Anyone identified as having prediabetes is invited to attend the free class by Sheena Carswell and Marge Morris.

Gentle yoga classes are ideal for seniors

A Gentle Yoga class with Jennifer Kiel, certified yoga instructor, will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays at St. Marks Church, 910 East Third Ave.

This class is ideally suited for seniors and people new to yoga. Drop-ins and beginners are welcome at any time.

Health experts, music will be featured at fair

The first annual DOCtoberfest Wellness Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Durango Tech Center Plaza, 10 Burnett Court, near the recycling center.

The fair will be hosted by Integrity Health Plus, Durango’s newest medical and lab services company, and will feature health experts, kids games, free local beer tasting, music by Robby Overfield and a blood drive from noon to 3 p.m.

A raffle with prizes will be held to support Southwestern Colorado Area Health Education Center, whose goal is to keep the Health Careers Camp affordable for families. Integrity Health Plus will match the funds raised. Raffle tickets are $5.
