Heart Safe La Plata offers CPR classes
Heart Safe La Plata will offer these classes at the Durango Fire Protection District training room, 142 Sheppard Drive:
An adult CPR/AED course will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday. The course will cost $50 and provides a two-year certification.
CPR PRO for Healthcare Professionals will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. May 8. The cost is $65. This course covers adult, child and infant CPR.
Online CPR and first-aid training is available. People can take the course on a home computer, schedule the skills portion and receive a two-year certification. The cost for either CPR or basic first aid is $50.

Mercy to offer prediabetes class
Mercy Regional Medical Center will offer a class for people with prediabetes from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday in Suite 140 at the medical office building at Mercy.
People diagnosed with prediabetes are at a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Effectively managing prediabetes can help prevent diabetes.
Sheena Carswell and Marge Morris will lead this free class.

Behavioral-health summit set for May 14
The Citizens Health Advisory Council will host a Behavioral Health Mini Summit from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 14 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds in the Extension Building, 2500 Main Ave.
Participants will help prioritize behavioral-health action items and help create a community behavioral health integration plan.
The vision developed by the 2013 Call to Action group and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Wellness Initiative will be the guide for discussion.
