Talk to address ending allergy symptoms

Caleb Gates, licensed acupuncturist, will discuss how to resolve food and airborne allergy symptoms using Advanced Allergy Therapeutics.

These are safe, noninvasive treatments that use gentle pressure to unstress organ systems.

Local nurse Carswell earns certification

Sheena Carswell, clinical nurse specialist at Mercy Cardiology Associates in Durango, recently earned board certification in advanced diabetes management from the American Association of Diabetes Educators. She is now available to provide disease-management services for adult patients with diabetes in Southwest Colorado.

Carswell works closely with referring providers who maintain primary care of their diabetes patients.

Carswell is seeing patients for diabetes management at Mercy’s Health Services Clinic in downtown Durango and at the Mercy Family Medicine clinic at Mercy Regional Medical Center’s main campus.

Free classes to help people with prediabetes

People diagnosed with prediabetes are at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Effectively managing prediabetes can help prevent diabetes. In fact, studies have shown that the risk of developing type 2 diabetes can be eliminated with lifestyle intervention and modifications, which have been shown to be more effective in managing prediabetes than medication alone.

Anyone with prediabetes is invited to attend a free class by Sheena Carswell, CNS, BC-ADM, and Marge Morris, RD, CDE. Attendees will learn how to manage prediabetes and help prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes.

These free classes will be held at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Suite 140 of the medical office building from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 7 and Dec. 5.

Treating back problems will be discussed

Chiropractor Robert Fitts and Donna Murray, mind-body therapist, will present a workshop about seven natural action steps to help eliminate back problems at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Shambala Chiropractic Center, 117 East Animas Road (County Road 250).

Acupuncture clinic available to veterans

A Durango Veterans Acupuncture Clinic will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Mondays and from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays at 635 East Fifth Ave.

This is a free community-style acupuncture clinic for veterans and their families. The clinic is sponsored by The Durango Acupuncture Alliance.
