Community college receives Nightingale scholarship

The Southwestern Colorado Area Health Education Center will present Southwest Colorado Community College with the 2013 Southwestern Colorado Nightingale Scholarship.

The scholarship is made possible through contributions from regional business and organization sponsors: Mercy Regional Medical Center and Southwest WomenÂ’s Health Associates in Durango; Southwest Memorial Hospital and Nurse Managers in Cortez; and Dr. Mary Fisher Medical Foundation in Pagosa Springs.

Nora Flucke, Department of Nursing and branch campus coordinator at the college, accepted the $850 scholarship at a recent Nightingale event in Durango. Flucke said the scholarship money will be offered to an eligible student facing financial hardship because of an unforeseen circumstance.

Current nursing students may apply for the scholarship at the college. The application deadline closes May 10 with the end of the current semester.

Application forms will be available at the Health Sciences front desk, 701 Camino del Rio, or by calling 247-2929 to request a copy by email.
