Social factors affecting health to be discussed

The Southwestern Colorado Area Health Education Center and The Colorado Trust will host a webinar viewing party at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Keller Williams Building, 700 Main Ave.

The webinar is called “Social Determinants of Health.” Dr. Adewale Troutman, director of the Public Health Practice Program, University of South Florida, will discuss social factors that contribute to health.

A complimentary lunch will be served. A discussion will be held after the presentation, and attendees may ask Troutman questions.

The Health Equity Learning Series aims to increase knowledge and awareness about health equity through presentations from experts about factors that increase disparities and solutions that advance health equity.

CPR, first-aid classes available online or live

Heart Safe La Plata will offer these CPR and first-aid classes:

Heart Safe La Plata is now offering online CPR and first-aid training to the community. People can sign up for the class, take the course on a home computer, schedule the hands-on skills portion and receive a two-year certification. The cost for either CPR or basic first aid is $50.

An adult CPR/AED (automated external defibrillator) course will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Durango Fire & Rescue Authority training room, 142 Sheppard Drive. This course will cost $50 and provides a two-year certification.

CPR PRO for health-care professionals will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Durango Fire & Rescue Authority training room, 142 Sheppard Drive. The cost will be $65. This course covers adult, child and infant CPR.
