Mercy Regional Medical Center receives ‘A’ rating for safety

Mercy Regional Medical Center was honored with an “A” grade on the fall 2014 Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from errors, injuries and infections.

The Hospital Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of experts about patient safety and is administered by The Leapfrog Group, an independent industry watchdog. The hospital safety rating is peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety. The rating is designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.

The score is derived using 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single letter score – A, B, C, D or F – representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe.

Ebola preparations continue in Southwest Colorado

San Juan Basin Health Department and Mercy Regional Medical Center are committed to ensuring the safety of patients, health-care workers and the community as they prepare for the potential presence of the Ebola virus in Southwest Colorado.

In collaboration with local, state and federal health partners, Mercy is following federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines to actively monitor patients for Ebola exposure and putting in place Ebola-specific emergency preparedness plans, which include staff education and training.

For the safety of patients, associates and care providers, Mercy and Centura Health have standardized the screening process for patients who may be at risk for Ebola.

Patients at Mercy and its outpatient clinics are being screened for travel in the last 21 days to a country with widespread Ebola exposure as well as contact with anyone diagnosed with or suspected of having been exposed to Ebola in the last 21 days.

San Juan Basin Health Department is working throughout the region to ensure that its local partners have received and implemented guidance from state and federal authorities.
