The Durango Business Improvement District is funded by a small mill levy applied to about 400 commercial properties located in Downtown and in the North Main District. BID’s work supports every business in those 400 properties. BID has a new promotion in October that focuses on the North Main District.
BID’s boundaries for the North Main District are 14th Street on the south end and Animas View Drive on the north end. When locals think about the North Main District, they might forget that it offers nearly 30 food and beverage businesses. The North Main District also includes 20 places to shop for items such as stoves, spas, televisions, lighting, furniture, tires, craft beer, pet food, ski gear, flowers and more. Plus, there are tons of personal services along North Main.
BID’s promotion in support of North Main District businesses is called NoMAD – North Main Autumn Days. When you shop at any of the 70-plus eligible businesses along north Main in the month of October, your receipts can be submitted for entries to a drawing for a new community gift card. Here’s how it works.
Shop at any of the 70-plus eligible businesses and save your receipts. You can submit them at NorthMainDistrict.org/nomad. A maximum of 10 receipts will be accepted per household, and the total of your receipts must be at least $50. The more you spend, the more entries you earn for the drawing. All purchases must be made at an eligible business in the month of October, see the website for details. Receipts are due by end of day Nov. 1.
BID will draw 20 winners from all entries. The winners will receive BID’s new community gift card, which is named Heart of Durango Dollars. Heart of Durango Dollars will be accepted at multiple businesses downtown and in the North Main District, with more businesses added all the time. A few of the places that currently accept Heart of Durango Dollars include: Pet Haus, Louisa’s Electronics, Happy Pappy’s Pizza N Wings, Durango Doughworks, Homeslice North, Zia Taqueria, Serious Texas BBQ, Durango Outdoor Exchange, Eolus Bar and Dining, Carver Brewing Co., Maria’s Bookshop and Tippy Canoe.
A total of $775 in Heart of Durango Dollars will be awarded. The only way to be the first people in town to have this new local gift card is through BID’s NoMAD promotion. Support North Main District businesses, save your receipts and turn them in by Nov. 1.
BID also reminds you of the annual trick or treat event held downtown. Children’s Halloween Trick or Treat and Carnival is always held on the day of Halloween, so Thursday Oct. 31 this year. It is from 4 to 6 p.m. and offers a safe and fun trick or treating experience. This is meant for kids 10 and younger, but all are welcome. Trick or treat at nearly 100 businesses in Downtown Durango. Be sure to hop over to TBK Bank for the carnival that Boys and Girls Club of La Plata County is operating. It will have games and activities, plus there will be trunk or treating there from other businesses. Hope to see you and your kids in Downtown on Halloween!
