I looked up at my office calendar and realized fall high school sports practices have been underway for eight days.
Many of these high school golf teams will be heading into competition well before the other high school sports in order to fill their tournament schedule before the weather turns on them.
You will see and hear many familiar names aired and publicized in the coming months that have drifted across the pages of this column over the summer. Some of those names will be seen later in this week’s edition. So many have gained an edge on the sport by participating in junior programs over the summer.
Twenty-seven years ago I produced a public service radio spot for a fledgling local group which encouraged skiing events for local athletes with disabilities. That spot, much to my surprise, took first place in the Colorado Broadcasters Association public service category.
Decades later, the Adaptive Sports Association continues its efforts to provide sports and recreational opportunities for people with disabilities. The second annual Birdie Fest will take place Sept. 5 at the Glacier Club, as three pros from each of our area courses – Hillcrest Golf Club, Dalton Ranch Golf Club and the Glacier Club – will play 54 holes of friendly competition to help raise funds for ASA.
The 36-hole individual stroke-play Ska Brewing-Hillcrest Club Championships will be held Saturday and Sunday.
Dalton Ranch was busy last week as the Men’s Club Championship, the Junior Club Championship and the finale of the Member Match Play concluded:
